Svetlana Sohoni is a ceramicist and designer currently based in Seattle, WA. Her work combines the functional with elements of beauty, nature, and identity. Her work draws inspiration from the intersection of her South Asian background and West Coast upbringing. She explores this through pattern, maximalist design, color and organic forms. She is interested in mundane, everyday objects and transforming them into usable pieces of art. Her work is rooted in intentionality and process. Pieces can take weeks or even months to create, due to the earthly materials and firing. The result is delicate and useful pieces that can be appreciated everyday.
Svetlana has been teaching hand-building and wheel-throwing at community studios in Capitol Hill and Beacon Hill for the past three years. She recently settled into a studio space in Belltown where she will be teaching workshops and creating in. Stay tuned for more info on workshops and studio events!
